Commissioner writes to new Parliament Criminal Justice Committee

The Scottish Biometrics Commissioner Dr Brian Plastow has recently written to Alyn Smith MSP welcoming his appointment as chair of the Criminal Justice Committee for the seventh session of the Scottish Parliament.

In his letter, the Commissioner highlights the work of SBC since 2021 and our recent Outcomes Report. The Commissioner also references the current statutory review of SBC functions by Scottish Government and once again calls on Minister’s to consider future low-cost expansion or remit since biometric data is not the sole preserve of policing bodies and is acquired and shared extensively throughout the entire criminal justice ecosystem in Scotland.
