Commissioner pens article for Computer Weekly
Computer Weekly is the leading UK digital technology magazine, website, and IT investigations specialist with a global reach. It is perhaps most famous for breaking the Post Office Horizon scandal.
To mark its 60th anniversary, the Scottish Biometrics Commissioner Dr Brian Plastow was asked to pen a short article on how technology has changed policing in that time frame. Drawing on his personal experience of working in and around policing since 1978, the Commissioner reflects on how policing in the UK, and its parallel representation in BBC policing drama shows, has been transformed by six decades of rapid advances in technology that 60 years ago were simply unimaginable. In doing so, the Commissioner charts the transition in police technologies from analogue to digital to AI and beyond.
