Workshop Reflections: Strategic Planning and Code of Practice Workshop empowering voices
On July 10, 2025, the Scottish Biometrics Commissioner hosted an engaging and thoughtful workshop with a group of vulnerable adults and team members of COSLA and SOLD network (a partnership between People First Scotland and the Association for Real Change Scotland - which support people with cognitive and neurological impairment who have experience with the criminal justice system) focused on two key areas: our Strategic Plan and Code of Practice.
The session opened with a discussion on what is biometric data and the role of the Commissioner. The first half of the workshop focused on the Code of Practice, with deep and meaningful conversations around equalities, consent, and accessible information. Participants shared real-life experiences and honest reflections helping to highlight where current practices can be strengthened to ensure clarity, choice when possible, and fairness for all.
In the second half, we turned to the Strategic Plan 2025-29 with conversation focused on the potential areas we will work on in the next four years. We discussed ideas and priorities aiming to ensure that all future work reflects the needs and views of vulnerable people. Participants expressed strong interest in co-producing future reviews, ensuring plans are both inclusive and impactful.
The workshop outcomes will directly inform the ongoing development of our Strategic Plan and the future review of the Code of Practice, reinforcing our commitment to listening and learning from our stakeholders.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated, your voices are helping us shape a more responsive biometric future in Scotland.
